Services - Tax Enquiry Fee Insurance

Tax enquiry and investigation fee insurance

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is able to launch investigations into both personal and company tax payers completely at random. That's the bad news.

The good news is that you can protect yourself against the cost of our fees for supporting you through any such investigations by taking out tax enquiry fee insurance.

Whilst fee insurance won't cover any penalties, fines or owed taxes that HMRC may charge, it can at least offer peace of mind in covering your related accountancy fees, however much work turns out to be required.

For clients without insurance, we have to charge for tax enquiry work on a "time spent" basis rather than via a fixed fee, as the amount of work required is too unpredictable.

Enquiry-related work typically involves collating information as requested by HMRC, dealing with their queries and, if applicable, helping our client to negotiate a settlement figure (for penalty fees, owed taxes, interest, etc).

Total costs can soon add up and, even if HMRC finds nothing as a result of their investigation, victory could still leave a bitter taste, as you remain responsible for your own accountancy fees.

Whilst we can't prevent HMRC from raising an enquiry, we're able to offer support during their investigations - and if you're covered by tax enquiry fee insurance, you won't need to concern yourself about our fees.
